Conference of the International Catholic Organisations
 |
Born in 1927
under the title of "Conference of Presidents", the Conference of the ICO
was made into an institution and was endowed with
a judicial personality in 1951,
some years after the Second World War, at the time when the Society of
Nations was disappearing and when UNO was being built up.
The Conference was constituted a non profit-making association under
Swiss law and was ruled by articles 60 and following from the Swiss
Civil Code. Its official recognition by the Holy See was accorded to
it in 1953 on the occasion of its first General Assembly in Rome .

News:
M Daniel Vanespen 23/06/05
« We are actively preparing for the next General Assembly of the
Conference of the ICO, which will be held in Jerusalem, from 18
to 22 November 2005. The theme of the Conference is "For a Culture
of Peace - today and forever, here and everywhere". There will be
organised a "Public Act" on the 20 November 2005. Various contributions
have been gathered up in relation with this theme on "Home Page: rapid
connections
http://www.oic-ico.org/".
For its part, SIGNIS,
Catholic Worldwide Association for Communication, is bringing a specific
contribution to it. A European Ecumenical workgroup of SIGNIS- WACC
is bringing a reflection and an action plan on the theme: "Medias at
the service of a culture of peace". A brochure exists in French,
English, Spanish to this effect.
On the
other hand, The bishops’ Commission for the Means of Social
Communication in Lebanon
with the help of SIGNIS-Middle East and an International delegation of
SIGNIS World are jointly organising an "International Conference " on
this theme, in Beirut from 6 to 8 October 2005.
The conclusions which can be drawn will allow us to pursue this
programme and to fix on a considered resolution at the time of the
world Congress which SIGNIS is organising , in Lyon (Valpré) on the 5
and
6 November 2005. »
